Gorgeous military wedding at the historic Castillo de San Marcos in St Augustine, FL.
Kristin and Drew had a beautiful wedding ceremony at Castillo de San Marcos in St Augustine FL. There is a field just off to the side of this fort overlooking the gorgeous Matanzas River, making this a gorgeous setting for a wedding. Open field, surrounded by history, overlooking a beautiful river? Yes, please! I will shoot a wedding here any day.
Because the Castillo de San Marcos fort can accommodate small and large weddings alike, it the perfect spot for a ceremony.
The day started off at Treasury on the Plaza, where both Kristin and Drew got ready. The Treasury is just a few blocks from the fort so the wedding party and guests made the short walk over to the ceremony. If you’ve ever been to St Augustine, you know it’s a walking town. The cobblestone roads and old buildings are so interesting. You don’t even have to be history buff to appreciate how cool St Augustine is.
The question of “will it rain or not?” was looming over everyone as we had heavy cloud coverage all morning. And right before the ceremony, it started pouring! Thankfully, just as quickly as they started handing out umbrellas to all their guests, the rains stopped and a rainbow appeared over the river. I know everyone appreciates a good rainbow but when one shows up on a wedding day? I swear, it’s like seeing a unicorn. People LOVE IT.
A friend of Kristin and Drew did the officiating. It’s always so much more special when the officiant knows the couple on a personal level. And of course the guests always appreciate a good story or inside joke. There was laughter throughout the ceremony! Laughter at a wedding is so contagious and always makes for great photos of the guests.
My favorite part of the ceremony is definitely the walk back down the aisle as a married couple. It’s such a big deal that y’all can barely contain your excitement and I. Am. Here. For. It.
After the ceremony, everyone made the walk back to the Treasury for a perfect night of dancing, food, and celebration.
